Vets know how to hold balls!0

Accompanied my good friend Kirsty to the vet graduation ball in Chambers St. museum. Don’t get many opportunities to dust off the suit, and have’nt been to many functions in such a beautiful airy venue as the museum foyer. The ceilidh band won me over by starting out with “Black Horse and the Cherry Tree” and interspersing ceilidh with modern stuff so I could get pictures and not miss a dance.

Further to the Adam Lyal election campaign0

Robin Mitchell, the campaign manager for the witchery tour party, has put together a slideshow of all the pictures Alicia managed to take while I was in Islay. Good pictures, well put together and worth a look:

867 votes. Good stuff, way to make a messy election more entertaining!

10 Under the Ben 20073

Nearing the home straight in harsh sunshineLeaving transition Edinburgh Uni style
Transition for a solo riderSo near, yet so far, crashing in the transition as the clock counts out

10 hours of riding in harsh sunshine in Scotland surrounded by three hundred and sixteen other riders. Slogging up loose fire roads and then hooning through tight, twisty, technical forest. Rocks, bridges, northshore, drystone walls and two big water splashes. Polite overtaking and friendly concern when you hit a tree. The seductive knowledge that whatever happens, in less than ten hours from now you can have a beer and collapse in front of a barbecue. Then banishing anything but the next obstacle or rider from your mind, pedalling until it hypnotises you. The sprint for the transition, dib, bleep and tag. You can collapse now, its some-one elses problem (unless you are riding solo).

We won no prizes, but this is how it feels to finish

10 Under The Ben0

Fraser, George and I are racing under the banner of “Monkey Toasters” at Ten under the Ben, a ten hour endurance race this saturday. I’m sure its an adge not to fit new stuff to your bike before a race, so I only fitted new grips, front mech, rear brake cable and tyres. The sky outside is mocking the fact that I’ve packed my waterproofs and now have to cycle to work.

Also look out for “Team B for Ace” who gave me a cup of tea last year. Good folks.

Boxwars: Battle of the Clans3

Boxwars page 1

Boxwars started in Australia and arrived in Scotland in the Forest Cafe, Edinburgh in 2005. Contestants build cardboard suits of armour and weapons and do battle to live music and a crowd. This particular boxwars was the battle of the clans, red vs silver, previous wars include a political bash (won by the greens). The music was impressive and fitting. O.B.E were particularly good. Their keyboard/bass player Kieran getting unhealthily excited by their music.

Trying something new, I hope you like it. There are a truly incredible number of ways to light a cup of tea.
