Islay sunset1

I spent the week installing instrumentation on the LIMPET wave power plant owned by Wavegen on Islay (West coast of Scotland). After work I managed to get down to a beautiful beach (unfortunately in shade) and had to sprint cross country to take these photos.

Sorry about the lack of variety, but enjoy the pretty colours.

Edinburgh Moonwalk 20060

Its midnight and a whole sea of men and women wearing bra’s are queued up behind a bagpiper in pink tartan. The red floodlights flick to green and the crowd surges forwards like a flood, surging past the bagpiper and streaming across the meadows. Every person in that sea has 26 miles of powerwalking ahead of them, they’ve been waiting for hours, warming up, holding hands annd hugging. Now they are unleashed on a city whose only warning was the news articles and a enormous pink tent erected next to middle meadow walk.

The crowd were smiling and cheering, at one point they were exhorted to all fire their camera flashes at once, man made lightning dotting the sea of baseball caps and faces. A samba band thundered for them while a kilted kanagroo-man mooned them with a plastic bottom.

10 Under the Ben0

On the 17th & 18th of June, No Fuss events held “10 under the ben” at the foot of Ben Nevis. As five Edinburgh University students were racing, I decided to head up to shoot pictures for the Sports Union and add mountainbiking to my portfolio.

I’m glad I did, for a photographer it was a wonderful event. People were friendly and talkative, the organisers were informal and no-one minded me getting up on stage, into the back of the lead vehicle or onto the course. On top of that, the countryside was spectacular, wild overgrown forests and towering trees. I almost forgot about the midges and the rain.

Thankyou to everyone who helped me out, congratulations to the team B for Ace guys who have a most excellent caravan and I’ll see you next year, maybe even on a bike.

My pictures are here. Rider by rider pictures shot by Nevispix are here. Sandy’s comments on the race are here.

Jump!0

Dave just graduated with a good electrical engineering degree, thus he had to be attacked by John Knox’s trousers yesterday. I was there to take his berobed picture. For the few minutes of the photoshoot the clouds parted and serious amounts of sunlight poured forth. Having done the standard pictures, I decided to rip off some photographic genius and make the subjects jump. Go look at the pictures and watch the expressions change.

Jump portraits rule ok!
